I personally like the directors cut of Alien (and Aliens for that matter), it was as OptimusPrime75 said, a more complete vision, and I found it had more tension than the cut version. As for the question of the eggs. It's a hard one. A lone drone or warrior should be able to produce an egg containing a queen, that would make sense. After all the creatures are ALL about perpetuating the species, and this would be the most logical thing to happen. Apparently this kind of thing goes on in the insect world all the time. As for why it was 'egging' both Brett and Dallas.who knows? Maybe as Drone said the first Alien to hatch has some sort of special enzyme or hormone that can change the next egg into a queen. Or maybe it just wanted a spare? I think ALIEN: The DIRECTOR's CUT was only a quarter star better,if you read my post reviewing The ALIEN SAGA.Those deleted scenes showing Captain Dallas & Brett being in cocoons & being turned into new eggs via resin makes the film more logical.Without those scenes,it seems as though the adult creature is just running around the ship 'mindlessly' killing NOSTROMO crew members for no reason.I also like the scene earlier on the NOSTROMO bridge where we actually get to hear the bizarre signal from the Space Jockey's Derelict on the planet. When Bretts looking for Jones you see the Alien 'hanging' from the landing gear and it looks like its part of it. Also when Brett gets it in the head you see Parker & Ripley run in and see Bretts blood hitting Parkers t-shirt. When Kane is in the egg chamber you see him take out a gun when he's looking at the movement in the egg, Ridley removed it as he didnt want anyone to know they had weapons on board. Also at the end theyve changed the scene where the Alien looks at Jones in his cat box, in the original the Alien looks at him and looks to the side in puzzelment (like dogs do) In the new version the Alien hits the box throwing it to the side (thats why the box is laid on its side when Ripley goes back to get him). If anyone makes a fan cut they best include a scene that appears neither in the theatrical or directors cut, but 1 in which i have a very vivid memory of seeing somewhere along the way. That being after Brett gets pulled up into the vents where Parker runs in only to have blood be rained down upon him. I don't remember where i saw it, perhaps a documentary or behind the scenes look, but i've always felt it needed to be in the film. Get even more thrills and chills in Alien: The Director's Cut, a special edition of director Ridley Scott's science fiction/horror classic. For this digitally remastered special edition of what many have called the “scariest movie ever made,” Ridley Scott has incorporated new never before seen footage. May 12, 2015 This is a recut version of the famous Alien Cocoon Scene I put together. Science Fiction 1979 R. The 2003 director's cut. As is, it's quite a drastic cut from Brett's death to Parker slamming down the makeshift flamethrower. As for which version i prefer, i err on the side of the theatrical cut. From Snopes.com All the Good Things Sister Helen P. Mrosla He was in the first third grade class I taught at Saint Mary's School in Morris, Minnesota. All 34 of my students were dear to me, but Mark Eklund was one in a million. [He was] very neat in appearance but had that happy-to-be-alive attitude that made even his occasional mischievousness delightful. Mark talked incessantly. I had to remind him again and again that talking without permission was not acceptable. What impressed me so much, though, was his sincere response every time I had to correct him for misbehaving: 'Thank you for correcting me, Sister!' I didn't know what to make of it at first, but before long I became accustomed to hearing it many times a day. One morning my patience was growing thin when Mark talked once too often, and then I made a novice teacher's mistake. I looked at him and said, 'If you say one more word, I am going to tape your mouth shut!' It wasn't ten seconds later when Chuck blurted out, 'Mark is talking again.' I hadn't asked any of the students to help me watch Mark, but since I had stated the punishment in front of the class, I had to act on it. I remember the scene as if it had occurred this morning. I walked to my desk, very deliberately opened my drawer and took out a roll of masking tape. Without saying a word, I proceeded to Mark's desk, tore off two pieces of tape and made a big X with them over his mouth. I then returned to the front of the room. As I glanced at Mark to see how he was doing, he winked at me. I started laughing. The class cheered as I walked back to Mark's desk, removed the tape and shrugged my shoulders. His first words were, 'Thank you for correcting me, Sister.' Share this Rating. Title: All Things Valentine (TV Movie 2016) 6.8 /10. Want to share IMDb's rating on your own site? Use the HTML below. All Good Things Soap- Natural Aromatherapy Soaps with Botanical Oils and Herbs, scented and enriched with Essential Oils. Most are Vegan, all Gluten Free! 'All Good Things' is based on one of those true stories like Dominick Dunne used to tell so intriguingly in Vanity Fair. Let me begin with a brief summary, based on. At the end of the year I was asked to teach junior high math. The years flew by, and before I knew it Mark was in my classroom again. He was more handsome than ever and just as polite. Since he had to listen carefully to my instructions in the 'new math,' he did not talk as much in ninth grade as he had in the third. One Friday, things just didn't feel right. We had worked hard on a new concept all week, and I sensed that the students were frowning, frustrated with themselves —and edgy with one another. I had to stop this crankiness before it got out of hand. So I asked them to list the names of the other students in the room on two sheets of paper, leaving a space between each name. Then I told them to think of the nicest thing they could say about each of their classmates and write it down. It took the remainder of the class period to finish the assignment, and as the students left the room, each one handed me the papers. Charlie smiled. Mark said, 'Thank you for teaching me, Sister. Have a good weekend.' That Saturday, I wrote down the name of each student on a separate sheet of paper, and I listed what everyone else had said about that individual. On Monday I gave each student his or her list. Before long, the entire class was smiling. I heard whispered. 'I never knew that meant anything to anyone!' 'I didn't know others liked me so much!' No one ever mentioned those papers in class again. I never knew if they discussed them after class or with their parents, but it didn't matter. The exercise had accomplished its purpose. The students were happy with themselves and one another again. That group of students moved on. Several years later, after I returned from vacation, my parents met me at the airport. As we were driving home, Mother asked me the usual questions about the trip—the weather, my experiences in general. There was a light lull in the conversation. Mother gave Dad a sideways glance and simply said, 'Dad?' My father cleared his throat as he usually did before something important. 'The Eklunds called last night,' he began. 'I haven't heard from them in years. I wonder how Mark is.' Dad responded quietly. 'Mark was killed in Vietnam,' he said. 'The funeral is tomorrow, and his parents would like it if you could attend.' To this day I can still point to the exact spot on I-494 where Dad told me about Mark. I had never seen a serviceman in a military coffin before. Mark looked so handsome, so mature. All I could think at that moment was, Mark, I would give all the masking tape in the world if only you would talk to me. The church was packed with Mark's friends. Chuck's sister sang 'The Battle Hymn of the Republic.' Why did it have to rain on the day of the funeral? It was difficult enough at the graveside. The pastor said the usual prayers, and the bugler played taps. One by one those who loved Mark took a last walk by the coffin and sprinkled it with holy water. I was the last one to bless the coffin. As I stood there, one of the soldiers who had acted as pallbearer came up to me. 'Were you Mark's math teacher?' I nodded as I continued to stare at the coffin. 'Mark talked about you a lot,' he said. After the funeral, most of Mark's former classmates headed to Chuck's farmhouse for lunch. Mark's mother and father were there, obviously waiting for me. 'We want to show you something,' his father said, taking a wallet out of his pocket. 'They found this on Mark when he was killed. We thought you might recognize it.' Opening the billfold, he carefully removed two worn pieces of notebook paper that had obviously been taped, folded and refolded many times. I knew without looking that the papers were the ones on which I had listed all the good things each of Mark's classmates had said about him. 'Thank you so much for doing that,' Mark's mother said. 'As you can see, Mark treasured it.' Mark's classmates started to gather around us. Charlie smiled rather sheepishly and said, 'I still have my list. It's in the top drawer of my desk at home.' Chuck's wife said, 'Chuck asked me to put this in our wedding album.' 'I have mine too,' Marilyn said. 'It's in my diary.' Then Vicki, another classmate, reached into her pocketbook, took out her wallet and showed her worn and frazzled list to the group. 'I carry this with me at all times,' Vicki said, without batting an eyelash. 'I think we all saved our lists.' That's when I finally sat down and cried. I cried for Mark and for all his friends who would never see him again. ____________________________________________ The purpose of this letter, is to encourage everyone to compliment the people you love and care about. We often tend to forget the importance of showing our affections and love. Sometimes the smallest of things could mean the most to another. I am asking you to please send this letter around and spread the message and encouragement, to express your love and caring by complimenting and being open with communication. The density of people in society is so thick that we forget that life will end one day. And we don't know when that one day will be. So please, I beg of you, to tell the people you love and care for, that they are special and important. Tell them, before it is too late. I leave these messages with you and ask you to continue to spread the message to everyone you know. ____________________________________________ Origins: This inspirational tale of the 'teacher who made a difference' (and its unnecessary explanatory coda) can be found on hundreds of web sites all over the Internet and has been widely forwarded as a 'good luck' chain letter via e-mail. It epitomizes principles we fervently wish to believe: that a dedicated educator (and religion) can make a positive, lasting difference in one's life; and that the world would be a better place if we found it in our hearts to reach out to each other. (Just in case we missed the point, the didactic end paragraph states it explicitly.) Sister Helen Mrosla, a Franciscan nun, submitted 'All the Good Things' to Proteus, A Journal of Ideas in 1991. Her article also appeared in Reader's Digest that same year, was reprinted in the original Chicken Soup for the Soul book in 1993, and was offered yet again in 1996's Stories for the Heart. Sister Mrosla first met Mark Eklund in her third-grade classroom at St. Mary's School in Morris, Minnesota, in 1959, and she encountered him again in 1965 when she served as his junior high math teacher. In April 1971, Mark was sent to Vietnam and assigned to the 585th Transportation Company in Phu Bai where he worked in a truck parts depot, and he kept in touch with his family and friends (including Sister Mrosla) through letters. In August 1971, as she was returning from a vacation, Sister Mrosla learned of Mark's death from her parents. (Although he died in Vietnam, Mark Eklund was not killed in combat —he died in his sleep of a pulmonary and cerebral edema.) In 1999, Sister Mrosla talked to an Associated Press reporter about Mark Eklund: His letters to family painted a safe picture, describing his work as a clerk at a truck parts depot far from the shooting. But to friends, including Sister Mrosla, he revealed fears of dying and frustration over what he perceived as a fruitless war effort. He told his former teacher about lying in his bunk listening to a firefight one night. 'He was scared to death from the shooting,' Sister Mrosla said. 'He'd have nightmares about it. I remember telling him I was praying for him.' She filled her letters with stories about her students and how much they were like his class. Mourners at Mark's funeral lined the block around the red-brick Assumption Church, second only to the town's grain elevator in height. They filed up the stairs, into the sanctuary and past the open black casket. Sister Mrosla was the last in line. [Mark's classmate Chuck] Lesmeister helped bear the casket, draped in a flag, to a hearse for the five-block ride to the cemetery, where a soldier played 'Taps.' As it was lowered into the ground, a soldier approached Sister Mrosla. 'Are you Mark's math teacher?' 'He talked about you. You may want to talk to his parents about his personal effects.' The Eklunds were waiting for the nun when she arrived at a reception at the Lesmeister family farmhouse. Standing in the sunny kitchen, James Eklund pulled out a wallet. 'We want to show you something. They found this on Mark when he was killed. We thought you might recognize it,' he said, gently taking out a worn piece of paper that had been refolded many times and taped together. A few of Mark's school friends who were gathered around also recognized the paper, and one by one they told her they still had theirs. Lesmeister preserved his in his wedding album. Marilyn Lohr kept hers in her diary. And like Mark, Jim Halbe had his with him in his wallet. Although Sister Mrosla indicated she was happy that the circulation of her article on the Internet had brought Mark's story to a global audience, she was less than pleased that it had been turned into a chain letter promising good luck to recipients who passed it on. 'It cheapens it somehow,' she said. ________________________________ STUDY QUESTIONS 1. Free-write about all the good qualities of one (and only one) person you know personally. Then, think about the one thing you can't tell that person--about you or about themselves--and why. (8 minutes) a. Write a single sentence that generally introduces WHAT you cannot tell this person and WHY. Pretend this person and your secret will become a chain letter, and write a post-script to explain to a total stranger what the moral or message of this story might be. (What do ordinary people stand to learn from your dilemma?) Keep your post-script relevant! Sister Helen Mrosla's story was originally written as a letter and was published in 1991; years later, it was circulated (not by Mrosla) on the internet years as a chain letter* promising good luck if it were forwarded. The original postscript to Mrosla's letter contains the following: The purpose of this letter, is to encourage everyone to compliment the people you love and care about. We often tend to forget the importance of showing our affections and love.... We forget that life will end one day. And we don't know when that one day will be. So please, I beg of you, to tell the people you love and care for, that they are special and important. Tell them, before it is too late. Mrosla admitted, while she was happy the internet advanced Mark Eklund's story, she was displeased with the promotion of it as a chain letter 'It cheapens it somehow,' she said. The story's postscript (the follow-up commentary) asks us to pay forward these compliments. Do you agree that using the story as a chain letter cheapens it? Why, or why not? [*Note: A 'chain letter' is an epistle that often carries, not only a spiritual message, but also an alleged charm or blessing that bestows good luck if the chain is unbroken and bad luck if the recipient does not forward the letter to someone else; for the record, I've broken every chain letter I've ever received, even the ones sent to me in my childhood.] ________________________________________________________ Time Permitting 3. Try out Mrosla's exercise in your group: on slips of paper write down the name of each person in your group (except your own, of course) and anonymous record one attribute about that person you feel is good. Make your comments specifically about there person, instead of superficial features. (For example, don't write, 'I like your name,' or 'I like that you wear Prada.' Introduce someone you know and admire (it may be the individual you intend to use for support in your assignment) and express to your group four qualities that you feel are admirable. Ask your group members to form a definition of 'ordinary heroism' based solely on this list of four qualities. Discuss the definition with them: is it the one you had in mind for the assignment? Why, or why not? Should you refine your definition to accommodate your group's input? Why, or why not? ________________________________ EXERCISE After free-writing about Helen Mrosla's story, 'All the Good Things,' you were asked to write one overall response to the story, the author, or its message. Working in pairs, introduce your overall response from that exercise, then collaborate with your partner to perform the following. (Make sure to write down your answers and ideas.) 1. Identify the limited version of the topic and your claim of value in your response; 2. Explain and clarify each of these in greater detail (Note: do not introduce examples yet); 3. Find three specific details or examples in the story that are partly or wholly responsible for your response. (Note: 'Specific detail' here means being able to point to an exact moment in the story or a precise place that can be quoted word-for-word.) 4. Take one of the three details and interpret how it lead to your response by discussing what you inferred from it and why. Avoid generalizations; make your interpretation as detailed as possible. When each of your response topics has been discussed, decide what kind of rhetorical mode(s) you might use to develop your topic assertion into a fully fledged paragraph, and why. (More than one is possible.) Choose from: Description (What's it like?) Narration (What happened?) Definition (What does it mean?) Exemplification (What shows that?) Directional Process (How is this accomplished?) Classification-Division (What types?) Cause-Effect (Why does it happen?) Comparison-Contrast (How are they (not) alike?) Interpretive Analysis (What do you think it means?) Informational Process (How does this phenomenon occur?) Argumentation (Why should I agree?) Persuasion (Why should I believe you?) Analogy (What are the issues like, figuratively speaking?). Free Trials – Alien Skin Software. I'm going to make this egg from a photo of yellow roses. I want to center my flowers on the egg, so I'll start with the image and draw the oval on it. This image is 269 x 312 pixels. It will make a very large egg, but the egg will look nicer if you start big and then scale it down when it's finished. (NOTE: A gradient fill, a texture or a pattern would work just as well as the roses. I could also have made an oval with the selection tool on a blank image and added my pattern with the flood fill tool.) Choose the selection tool, Sellection Type = Ellipse, Feather = 0, Antialias not checked. Draw an egg shape on your image. I drew an oval that covered most of the image vertically. (TIP: Once you have an oval shape you like, save it to the alpha channel [Selection/Save to Alpha Channel], so that you won't have to draw it again.) With the oval selection active, select Filters/Eye Candy/Water Drops. For this egg, I used the following settings: Number of drops: 1 Edge Darkness: 80 Opacity%: 50 Refraction: 18 Color: White Random Seed: 1 Highlight Brightness: 22 Highlight Sharpness: 50 Lighting Direction: 304 Lighting Inclination: 47 These settings gave me the following image: See how the selection is outside the raised part of the egg? So choose Selections/Modify/Contract/4 pixels. This contracts the selection so that it only encloses the part of the image that Eye Candy changed. (NOTE: The number of pixels you need to contract may vary, depending on the size of your original image.) With the oval selection still active, copy the image, Edit/copy (or use the keyboard shortcut: Ctrl+C). Then paste to a new image, Edit/Paste as new image, (or use the keyboard shortcut: Ctrl+V). This will create an image just the size of your egg with a transparent background. Now, I thought that a bit of a highlight was needed make the egg look more '3D', so with the selection too set to ellipse, I made a small ellipse on the top left side of the egg and flood filled it with white. With the white ellipse still selected, choose Selections/Promote to layer, (Keyboard shortcut: Shift+Ctrl+P). Then deselect the ellipse, and make sure the white ellipse, not the egg, is your active layer. Next we're going to rotate and then blur the white ellipse. Choose Image/Rotate and select Right, Free = 25, and make sure 'All Layers' is unchecked. If 25 doesn't suit you, undo the change and try another setting. To soften the highlight, choose Image/Blur/Gaussian Blur. I used a blur of 4.00. If you're satisifed with the egg, choose Layers/Merge/Merge Visible. This will retain the transparent background while collapsing all layers to a single merged layer. Set in the fictional All Saints Western General Hospital, it focused on the staff of Ward 17 until its closure in 2004, which is when the focus changed and began following the staff of the Emergency Department. It was produced by John Holmes alongside Jo Porter, MaryAnne Carroll and Di Drew. The final episode aired on 27 October 2009, completing its recording-breaking 12-year run. Contents • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • Plot [ ] All Saints follows the lives of the staff at All Saints Western General Hospital. Until its closure in 2004, the show primarily focused on the staff in Ward 17. Known as the 'garbage ward' as it took all the overflow from the other wards, Ward 17 was run by compassionate nun, Sister Terri Sullivan (). Her staff included her nurses Connor Costello (), Von Ryan (), Bronwyn Craig (), Jared Levine () and Stephanie Markham () and her ward clerk Jaz Hillerman (). Luke Forlano () and Peter Morrison () were doctors who frequently worked with Terri and her staff. Ben Markham () was an ambulance officer who worked closely with Luke, despite their rivalry. Bronwyn left Ward 17 and became an ambulance officer at the end of 1998 but returned to the ward full-time at the end of season 3. Production [ ] After the death of Dr. Mitch Stevens () and the departure of Bron Craig () in 2003, the producers decided to do something in response to considerable drop in ratings and to prolong the life of the series. In February 2004, John Holmes told journalist Debi Enker that All Saints would be undergoing 'major surgery' when the focus shifted from Ward 17 to the Emergency Department. He also stated that while four familiar faces will be leaving, new characters will be introduced to fill the void. Holmes recalled a statement that he made in May 2003 in which he said, 'we [myself and Seven script executive Bevan Lee] were seeing the scripts and watching episodes and we were feeling that there was a little bit of a sameness in it. We started to think, 'Don't know about this. Maybe we've had a few too many people through the door of Ward 17 on a trolley and had the 'Hi, I'm Von, I'm your nurse. Room Three, thanks Sterlo.' ' After tossing up between cancelling the show and using it as the foundation of a spin-off series, Holmes and Lee decided to rejuvenate the show by changing the setting. Ward 17 would then close and the show would be relocated to the Emergency Department. As a result of the shift, several cast members decided to leave the show. Paula Morgan (), Luke Forlano (), Alex Kearns () and Sterling McCormack () were all written out of the show. Former star signed a three-year deal and was added to the cast as the cranky head of Emergency, Dr. Frank Campion. Other new faces included as Dr. Jack Quade, and as nurses Dan Goldman and Jessica Singleton and as ambulance officer Cate McMasters. In 2009 another attempt to stem the softening ratings and add a bit of excitement to the series, executives decided to rejuvenate again, introducing a medical response unit to deal with tricky rescues which involved a helicopter going to remote locations to rescue patients who needed assistance. They would then bring those patients back to the ED and the staff there would assist in their treatment. Along with the addition of the new 'department' the show was also renamed to All Saints: Medical Response Unit, the introduction of and the new MRU proved to lift the ratings substantially, but then levelled out at where they were prior to the revamp. In June 2009, after months of rumours that the cancellation of All Saints was imminent, a spokeswoman from the informed that the episode order had been trimmed. Season twelve of All Saints would screen 24 episodes instead of the usual 40 episodes and that production would cease in August instead of November. In July 2009, exactly one month later after the first announcement, Tim Worner, Seven's Director of Programming at the time announced that All Saints had been cancelled. He told Michael Idato of the, ' All Saints is a show which Seven and viewers have loved. However, an audience shift and increased production costs are behind this tough decision.' He also informed Idato that the episode order trim had been reverted and the season would complete a 37 episode order, finishing on episode 493. It was reported after the announcement that since the introduction of the MRU in 2009 it inflated the cost of each episode to $500,000. Many people still argue as to why the MRU was introduced in the first place or should have been removed instead of axing the show if the network was wanting to cut costs. In the Feb/Mar 2010 GQ magazine in 2010, Tim Worner said his one regret was 'Axing All Saints. But it was the right call at the time and we have two new drama projects in development.' Controversy [ ] Episode 265 [ ] On 20 April 2004, episode 265, 'Brave New World' aired, which saw the introduction of 's character, Frank Campion. It was also the first episode to be set in the Emergency Department. This episode attracted lots of controversy. One patient came into the triage and tried to get help, but he was told to wait. Later on, Nelson heard a phone ring coming from the patient and asked him to turn off the phone. It was later hinted that he had been using the phone to masturbate and it had gotten stuck in his rectum. The end of the episode saw Frank go introduce himself to Terri (), who was recovering from heart surgery. During a heated argument about staff members, Frank blatantly said to Terri, 'if you ever use your influence with your previous employees to white-ant me again, you will never work in Emergency.' Before Terri could get a word in, Frank added, 'can I make it any fucking clearer?' The next day, announced that they had received more than 100 phone calls in Melbourne alone. Parker told the media, 'it's a good response because it's not about the shock words—we've sworn on the show before—but because people clearly feel really protective about Terri. It's like they really feel for her as a character and don't like her being under attack by a very confronting man. It's great to know they care for her so much.' On 22 April, the network issued a statement that read, 'within an M classification code, coarse language is permitted provided it is appropriate to the storyline or program context.' An apology was not made. Episode 432 [ ] On 27 May 2008, episode 432, 'Never Tell' aired. This episode saw a woman pregnant from an incestuous relationship with her brother, told her child may have Down syndrome as a result. Leading geneticist Dr. David Amor of Murdoch Children's Research Institute stated, 'There is absolutely no increase in the risk of Down syndrome for the offspring of incestuous relationships.' Down Syndrome Australia considered legal action, complained to the media regulator, the Australian Communications and Media Authority and called for a boycott by the show's advertisers if an apology and correction was not aired on All Saints the following week. Seven responded with, ' All Saints values its audience and has the greatest respect for their commitment to the program. Without reservation, to any members of the audience who have found an element of a recent story offensive, Channel Seven apologises.' The final episode [ ] The longer-than-usual 49-minute episode aired at 9:30pm on Tuesday, 27 October 2009. The episode, unlike those in the rest of the season, went back to basics and focused more on the lives of the nurses and doctors as they tended to patients. The episode saw 's character, Von Ryan tending to a teenage girl who comes into the ED and gives birth without knowing she was pregnant. And John Howard finished their seven- and five-year reigns as Dr. Charlotte Beaumont and Dr. Frank Campion respectively, caring for a woman played by who had cystic fibrosis. And left the show on a high with their characters, Claire Anderson and Elliott Parker treating a man () with a disease consistent with diabetes and promiscuity. Secretly, Von decides to resign from All Saints, telling only Frank that she wouldn't be returning. He offers to take her out for dinner, but instead plans a surprise farewell dinner for her. Throughout the dinner, Gabrielle () and Steve () decide to raise their child together and get back together, Bart () proposes to his girlfriend Amy () and Charlotte and Adam () share an intense moment. At the table, Von is pressured to make a speech by her colleagues and friends and reluctantly, she does, uttering her famous line: 'I spent a lot of time at All Saints and I'd just like to thank you all for your loyalty, your support and love. Oh bugger this, here's to us.' She raises her glass and toasts. The finale is capped off by a montage of scenes from over the show's twelve-year run, including Mitch's final scene, the closure of Ward 17 and Bron & Ben's wedding, all to song, '. The final scene sees Frank raise his glass at Von, who raises hers and smiles. Retrieved 5 January 2016. • ^ Byrne, Fiona (23 November 2003)... Australian Television Information Archive. Review SonyEricsson T300 T 300 is an fashion phone, it has an intermediate position between T200 and T600 in new phone line from SonyEricsson. The colour of this model (Ice Blue) is exactly the same as the color of SonyEricsson T68i. Furthermore it is possible to call T300 as a simple version of T68i. However, the design of new phone has some differences. The phone outline is more angular, it doesn't have the streamline form of T68i though it doesn't look like older models from Ericsson. In my opinion the dimensions (106x48x21 mm) and the weight(101 g) of the phone are acceptable, it's handy. It is possible to change the colour of 'phone face' and the covers themselves. Until now image phones from SonyEricsson don't support this service (the phone body stays Ice-blue, also model available in another two colours). The same display used in T300 as in T68i: graphical, colour (with up to 256 colours). It measures 34x28 mm and has a resolution 101x80pixels. The screen contains up to 8 text-lines. As you can see it is quite large and allows to view shot messages or Wap pages without any difficulties. It is impossible to read anything on the screen without backlighting in the standby mode. Compare Sony Ericsson Z200 price with other models. Check out the latest original, RRP or AP price for Sony Ericsson Z200. Alien Scum, Honey Cave and Mini Golf are the three games are installed on the Z200. Sony Ericsson Z200 Company: Sony Ericsson Price: AU$435 Distributor. When the backlight is switched on you can easily see text and images. You can set the permanent light-up duration but in this case your phone will work only one day and you'll need to recharge it at night. There are also many other screen-settings in this model: adjustability of display contrast (10 points), opportunity to install 3 kinds of types - standard, large and small (I liked standard most of all). Finally, in the standby mode nice light digital clock moves on the dark screen. The display is illuminated with a help of light-emitting diode situated on the sides of the screen. It is very bright inside and sometimes it's rather difficult to read the text on the street. There is no such problem in winter but, to say the truth, the bright sun in this season is rare. A new kind of joystick type key is used in T300. It allows to scroll in 4 directions and it also reacts on pressing. It seems to me it's more comfortable to use the new joystick than the older one, it is almost impossible to press it by mistake. Small plastic keys are positioned tightly but you don't feel discomfort while working because of their height. I can't say that the keypad is perfect but it is not the worst one. The phone has the special key to provide access to the quick(context) menu. A standard interface cutoff is situated below the phone and the locking catch of the interchangeable cover above. I tested only the prototype of T300 and the cover of my phone wasn't removable. Let's wait for commercial samples! Of course I should say that at the beginning of the article. Frankly speaking this paper isn't a real review, it's rather an estimation of the possibilities of the new model, which I made during the work with the prototype. A slider is on the left side of the phone. With the help of it you could regulate the volume of the loud-speaker in the talk mode, find out the date and view current information about profile and battery level. In the final version the slider will look different from this phone that I tested. On the right side you can see a dark window of an infrared port. There is no hole for a holder on the body of the phone but there are not so many people who definitely use it. A rear part and a battery are two independent elements, the same construction as in T200. The cover fits reliably to the phone body, there is no any backlash. A Li-Pol battery has 700 mAh capacity. According to the manufacturer, this battery works 300-350 hours in the standby mode and 6-7.5 hours in the talk one. In the reality it operated approximately 4 days in case of 45 minutes of talking (the Megaphone network) and 45-50 minutes of using different applications (games, organizer, alarm-clock) a day. It takes about 2 hours to recharge the battery. Menu The structure of the menu in comparison with T68i didn't change considerably but though several functions were modified. The main menu represents a set of 9 icons, that open an access to the list of items. Each item has its own number and I think that you've already guessed what it for. Of course, you are right, they are used for a fast menu navigation. One can store up to 250 names and phone numbers in the memory of phone. Note, that for one name you can add 3 phone numbers (mobile, office, home) and e-mail address (up to 10). The memory distributes dynamically. It means that if you input one number for each name, you will have 250 entries. T300 supports caller groups. For individual subscribers one can set a specific ringing tone or a graphic on the display. You could select an image either from the phone collection (around 50 images) or make it yourself with a help of MCA-25, MCA-10 view, MCA-20 camera. A new pleasant feature of T300 is the possibility to set a default phone number for each contact. There is also one more additional function in this submenu - sending all the phone numbers via the IR port. It will be of indispensable help when you decide to transfer your data to the other phone or PDA. Apart from sending and receiving standard SMS and EMS messages you can create and receive MMS messages and also your mail (POP3/SMTP). You can read detailed explanations of these features in the reviews of T68 and T68i. Calls information (register). This function traditionally provides a registration of calls. This phone has two lists of calls: the list of missed calls (up to 10 numbers) and the general list (up to 20 numbers). The user can view the data and time of each call. Note that this model has one peculiarity: if you reject an incoming call this number will be registered in the list of missing calls. Here it's also possible to view call duration and the volume of sent and received data. This submenu includes games and some other functions. Here you can change (the appeareance of) interface, there are themes in the phone that allow to change the colour of the menu. Other features are Composer (Musical editor) with a set of images and melodies and a Dictaphone. The memory of the dictaphone is limited only by free space (about 600 Kb - approximately 10 minutes). It records fragments, during the talk as well, that last one minute. To make your record active during the talk you should scroll to many items of the menu that is very inconvenient to do. Record fragments appear in this submenu, in the item My sounds and they are automatically designated by the days of the week (if you made several records in one day they are also numbered). Afterwards you can rename any file you like. The title of the submenu shows that here are collected all the settings connected with the phone operations: clock and date, adjustabilities of display (contrast, wallpapers of the screen), a language of menu and text input, profiles. The phone has two alarm clocks: one of them sounds once, the other has the recurring settings by the days of the week. The alarm clocks work even when the phone is switched off. A countdown timer, a stop-watch and a calculator are located also here. T300 supports a package data exchange (GPRS 3+1). You could work with a special cabel (PC connection) or via the IR port. T 300 is the phone of middle class, that is why you can't find bluetooth in this model. You could use GPRS for SMS exchange and browsing Wap (version 2.0). Impressions The connection quality and the volume of speakers are similar to SonyEricsson T68i and it means that T300 does its main job quite good. Polyphonic melodies sound pleasantly, you could hear well 24-voice polyphony. Let's wait how it will be realized in the commercial product. The vibrating alert is neither powerful nor weak. It is expected that this model will appear in shops in September and the initial price of it will be $300. During 2 or 3 months the price of T300 can go down to $200. It is the main price for this model. It seems to me that the end of the year would be rather interesting because many mobile phones with colour screen will appear on the market. Now you've got acquainted with the first representative (in the middle segment) of new mobile phone generation - the model SonyEricsson T 300. Update A commercial samples of T300 appeared and as we promised before, we write a continuation of the review. The main features are described earlier. Here we'll tell about changes occurred. Not all features were realized properly in prototype. For example, interchangeable covers were announced but it was impossible to open the phone. Now to change a front cover, press on the holder above the phone and pull the cover. It's rather hard to do but it works. There are no information about the colours yet and their photos as well. Two words about the construction of the phone. A slider volume key, placed on the left-hand side, didn't change at all. It remained simple. It's a pity that the battery isn't fixed tightly. If you shake the phone you'll feel how it dangles. I hope that it is a defect of only my sample. In any case you can check it before purchasing. I was asked to show the icons of the organizer, it's really a new feature in the handsets from SonyEricsson. Here are they. A disadvantage of a commercial series is the absence of the calendar, now you can record only separate events. The phone has 5 standard themes to change a menu design, 4 of them are pictures of different seasons. The games are really distinguishing. They resemble the old PC games. There are 4 pre-default games in the phone: Erix, Alien Scum, Black Deal, Minigolf. The first one is well-known, we've seen it in the other phones, and three remaining games are not so popular. BlackDela is a simple card game. Minigolf is an interesting mini golf. Alien Scum is a typical Arcade, it's very captivating and you can waste much time playing it. All games has a mood music, all the tones are polyphonic, what is really pleasing. The sound quality is excellent, the melodies are nice. The phone has a loud calling alert. It loses to Samsung but wins if to compare it to T100. Here you can listen to some of the ringing tones (, 1 Mb). There are 12 polyphonic melodies and 18 simple ringing tones in the phone. The latter ringing types are louder and if you are not satisfied with the volume of polyphonic calling alert you can change it to simple melody. The vibrating alert is rather strong here, it can be felt well. Musical editor is also placed in the phone, it enables to edit and to download your own ringing tones (not polyphonic). You can't record a melody through the dictaphone, anyway my sample doesn't have such capability. If to say about shortcomings of this software version (R1B), they are the following: impossibility to listen to the dictaphone records. The phone doesn't play them, surely it will be correct in the next software version. As a conclusion I'd like to say that in spite of the controversial design of the phone, it might be rather popular. It is one of the first handsets that will have a colour display and a polyphony in the middle class phones. A rival -Nokia 3510i will appear later, till that time SonyEricsson T300 might cost 200-250$. So this phone is really worth to think about. DVD Review: All New Super Friends Hour Season 1 Volume 2 DVD Review: All New Super Friends Hour Season 1 Volume 2 DVD Must-see TV for many kids growing up in the 1970s and 1980s was the Super Friends program every Saturday morning, no matter what form the show took. The many editions ranged from the supreme Challenge of the Super Friends which pitted the good guys against the swamp-dwelling Legion of Doom to the utterly ridiculous Super Powers Team featuring the villain Darkseid and the annoying teen hero Firestorm. But in between was The All New Super Friends Hour, now available in a 2-disc set, which nicely saw our gang of titans take on four capers in every hour-long episode. The Season 1 Volume 2 set contains eight episodes totaling 32 cartoons and follows up Volume 1 which was released just over a year ago. The formula was easy to follow. Each episode starts with a standard adventure featuring many of the most popular DC Comics characters including Superman, Batman, Robin, Wonder Woman, and Aquaman. The second story finds the Wonder Twins Zan and Jayna (and their space monkey Gleek) helping teenagers deal with tough issues like hitchhiking, peer pressure, cheating, and lying. Yes these are cringe-worthy when watched today, but back in the day they taught valuable lessons to a nation of youngsters wanting to activate their own Wonder Twin powers. The two replaced teen sleuths Wendy and Marvin from earlier editions of the cartoon. Two more tales cap off each episode with 'special guests' getting involved in the action. This is where the Super Friends would chum up with their ethnic buddies like Samurai, Apache Chief, or Black Vulcan. These super heroes of color played a bigger role in Challenge of the Super Friends as did Green Lantern, Hawkman, and Flash. Interspersed in each episode are various safety tips, magic tricks, and arts and crafts assignments. Making a phone with two tin cans and a string seemed hi-tech at the time. There is not much here in terms of extras which is unfortunate. A missed opportunity indeed. Disc Two houses the Special Features which include a documentary called The Wonder Twins Phenomenon plus two trailers. The doc is entertaining with a comical look at the genesis of the characters and their impact on pop culture. Why did they mostly just turn into an eagle and water all the time? And how convenient that Gleek just happened to have a bucket everywhere he went. Aside from the Smurfs trailer there is a preview for the DVD set of Challenge, albeit with a different voiceover artist which is highly distracting. But that trailer reminds you how a Super Friends DVD set really can be packed with interesting extras that fans would love. Surely nostalgia is the primary reason to pick up this DVD set or even to give it as a gift. It brings back great memories from that era, even if many of the stories didn't stand the test of time. Challenge, which is also available on DVD, is the best title but for those who already own it, The All New Super Friends Hour makes a nice companion piece. - Order DVD sets of the All New Super Friends Hour Season 1 ( or ) and ©2009. Instead, like the comic books, they focused on the far-fetched schemes of mad scientists and aliens, who were invariably revealed as being well-intentioned, and simply pursuing their goals through unlawful or disreputable means. Typically, at the end of each story, a peaceful and reasonable discussion would be performed by the heroes to convince the antagonists to adopt more reasonable methods. The All-New Super Friends Hour departed somewhat from the previous series' formula by featuring villains using more elaborate methods to further their goals; as a rule they could not be reasoned with, requiring the heroes to use direct force to stop them. Beginning with Challenge of the Super Friends, several of the heroes' arch-villains from the comic books (such as and ) began to feature prominently in comic-style stories. Throughout the series, plots often wrapped themselves up neatly in the final minutes of an episode in the fashion of the typical comic books and. Production history [ ] When animation company acquired rights to the DC Comics characters and adapted the comic book for it made several changes in the transition, including the change of name to Super Friends. Nevertheless, team members sometimes referred to themselves as the Justice League on the show. The violence common in was toned down for a younger audience and to adhere to broadcast standards governing violence in 1970s. As a DC Comics-based show, the Super Friends franchise was owned by DC's parent company, who later put the series into syndication. Thus,, which had the rights to air most of the rest of the Hanna-Barbera library from its inception in 1992, was not able to air Super Friends until after the merger of Warner Bros. Parent company and Cartoon Network parent company was completed in 1996. This merger also led to Warner Bros. Taking control of Hanna-Barbera and all of its other assets as well. The series was owned by Hanna-Barbera Cartoons, and. 1973–1974 series [ ]. Main article: Super Friends first aired on ABC on September 8, 1973, featuring well-known DC characters, and,, and. Superman, Batman and Robin, and Aquaman had each previously appeared in their own animated series produced by, and voice talent from these prior programs was brought in to work on the new show (with the exception of who was replaced by as the voice of Aquaman). Shortly before the Super Friends series was developed, Superman and Wonder Woman also guest-starred in two episodes of, while Batman and Robin appeared in two episodes of. In addition to the superheroes, a trio of sidekicks was introduced, each of whom were new characters not drawn from the comic books: (voiced by and ) and (also voiced by ), none of whom had any special abilities (save the dog's unexplained ability to reason and 'talk'). The trio—or at least its human members—were depicted as detectives and/or superheroes-in-training; the 'teen detectives and their talking animal', originally popularized by the franchise, was ubiquitous in Hanna-Barbera cartoons of the 1970s. Each episode began with the heroes responding to an emergency detected by the massive TroubAlert computer in the, which served as the headquarters of the team. Colonel Wilcox, a official, was a recurring character who would act as a government liaison with the Super Friends during emergencies. Colonel Wilcox was voiced. Conflicts were usually resolved with the antagonists persuaded to adapt more reasonable methods to achieve their aims (with the assistance of the heroes). Natural disasters triggered by human (or alien) activity were often shown, and environmental themes featured strongly in the program. Three other DC Comics superheroes were featured as guest stars during this season:,, and. This first run of Super Friends, consisting of 16 one-hour episodes which were rerun several times, concluded on August 24, 1974. At this point, the series was cancelled. However, interest in superheroes among ABC's prime-time viewers (with the success of and the live-action series) caused the network to revive Super Friends. The original 16 episodes of the series were rebroadcast as a mid-season replacement, running from February 7, 1976, to September 3, 1977. These episodes were edited into half-hour versions. At the same time DC Comics published a Super Friends comic, which used Wendy and Marvin from issue #1 (Nov 1976) to #6 (Aug. In the meantime, Hanna-Barbera began production on a revamped version of the show. 1977–1978 season: The All-New Super Friends Hour [ ]. Main article: The All-New Super Friends Hour featured four animated shorts per program. Wendy, Marvin and Wonder Dog were dropped from this and all future TV iterations of Super Friends, and were replaced by Zan and Jayna, and their pet monkey,. Unlike Wendy and Marvin, Zan and Jayna had actual super powers. A total of 15 episodes were produced. Of the Hanna-Barbara animation studios later explained the change in cast: When the decision was made by ABC to renew Super Friends three years after the first series' 1973 production, ABC and Hanna-Barbara wanted to ramp up (as much as they could) the series' action content. And since we were ramping that up, that meant making all of our cast a bit more serious, and giving our five leads a bit more backup than three non-powered sidekicks. [New sidekicks] also helped emphasize the 'New' in All-New Super Friends. [emphasis in original] The show followed a basic format each week. The first segment of every show featured two of the heroes (for the purposes of the team-ups in the first and fourth segments, Batman and Robin were considered 'one hero') teaming up in a separate mini-story. The second segment featured a story with the Wonder Twins. The third segment was considered the 'primary' adventure of the week, featuring the entire Super Friends roster (including the Wonder Twins) in a longer adventure. The fourth and final segment featured a story with one of the primary lineup and a 'special guest star'. This segment typically featured a problem that was solved using the guest star's unique abilities. Between segments there were short spots with members of the Super Friends giving basic safety lessons, providing first-aid advice, demonstrating magic tricks, creating crafts, and presenting a two-part riddle featuring the week's primary plot line. This was the first season to feature two villains appearing in the comic books, and. Each appeared in only one episode this season and each was somewhat modified for television. Black Manta's costume was not black and he was only referred to as 'Manta'. The Gentleman Ghost was referred to as 'Gentleman Jim Craddock'. 1978–1979 season Super Friends / Challenge of the Super Friends [ ]. Main article: The next season of Super Friends featured two segments: First segment: Super Friends episodes [ ] The first segment of the program featured the established group of heroes: Superman, Batman and Robin, Aquaman, Wonder Woman, the Wonder Twins and Gleek. They were rerun with intro from the All-New Super Friends Hour when in syndication in the early 1980s, but they are seldom seen in syndication since then. Second segment: Challenge of the Super Friends [ ] The second half-hour of the show introduced the, a team of 13 recurring foes who are the Super Friends' worst enemies. They used a swamp-based mechanical flying headquarters, the Hall of Doom (resembling the helmet of ), as a contrast to the Super Friends' gleaming Hall of Justice. A total of 16 episodes were produced. Additional heroes who had previously appeared as guest stars were added to the roster as well, to make a total of 11. These included, and from DC Comics and three Hanna-Barbera creations:,, and. Despite the Riddler showing a set of playing cards with (from left to right) Gleek, Zan, Aquaman, Wonder Woman, Robin, Batman, and Superman (which he then burns to ashes in his introduction in 'Wanted: The Super Friends'), the Wonder Twins and Gleek did not appear in Challenge. Enthusiasts have expressed the view that the storylines for the Challenge episodes were the Super Friends era's best portrayal of the DC heroes. [ ] The Challenge of the Super Friends segment was expanded to 90 minutes mid-season, with reruns of earlier episodes filling out the last half-hour. 1979–1980 season: The World's Greatest Super Friends [ ]. Main article: In the fall of 1979, the Super Friends returned to their prior format, bringing back the original set of five DC superheroes and Zan, Jayna and Gleek. Eight half-hour episodes were created for this run, with the majority of the season consisting of repeats of The All-New Super Friends Hour from 1977 to 1978 and The Super Friends segments from Challenge of the Super Friends from 1978 to 1979. Renamed The World's Greatest Super Friends, this series began on September 22, 1979, and ran until September 27, 1980. 1980–1982 seasons: Super Friends [ ]. Main article: Renamed in 1980, the series changed formats again, abandoning the production of half-hour episodes and producing seven-minute shorts. Each episode of Super Friends would feature a rerun from one of the previous six years and three new shorts. These new adventures featured appearances by the core group of five Super Friends and Zan, Jayna & Gleek. There were also guest appearances from members previously depicted in Challenge of the Super Friends and the Hanna-Barbera-created hero, who was added to the show in 1981 to provide cultural diversity. This would prove to be one of the longer-lived incarnations of the series (three years). A total of 22 episodes were produced. 1982–1983 season: The Best of the Super Friends (reruns) [ ] For the 1982–1983 television season ABC ran half-hour reruns of shows from the previous seven seasons, with none of the seven-minute shorts rebroadcast. ABC called the rerun package The Best of the Super Friends. 1983–1984 season: Cancellation and the 'lost episodes' [ ] Hanna-Barbera and Warner Bros. Had created a package of the earlier Super Friends series (co-distributed by ); these were picked up by stations across the United States and typically broadcast on weekday afternoons. Not wishing to compete with the syndication programming, ABC dropped the series from the 1983–1984 Saturday morning television line-up. For the second time, Super Friends was cancelled. However, during this time Hanna-Barbera continued to produce new episodes with the Super Friends, with ABC's approval and funding. In total, 24 'lost episodes' were produced, but not aired in the United States that season; the series appeared in Australia. Three of these episodes were aired when Super Friends returned to Saturday-morning ABC television the following year. The remainder aired on the USA network in 1995, as part of the show. 1984–1985 season: Super Friends: The Legendary Super Powers Show [ ]. Main articles: and Super Friends returned to ABC Saturday, September 8, 1984, with a new 30-minute program typically featuring two 11-minute stories per episode. This incarnation featured Superman, Batman, Robin, Wonder Woman, the Wonder Twins and Gleek, this time teamed up with. In addition to this core group, episodes during this season also featured cameos by old (and new) Super Friends. The series ended August 31, 1985, and featured comic-book villains such as,,,, and his henchmen from. This season and the next featured the 'Super Powers' tagline, which was part of a marketing tie-in with a produced. 1985–1986 season: The Super Powers Team: Galactic Guardians [ ]. Main article: In fall 1985 the next version of Hanna-Barbera's depiction of the DC Comics heroes began, although it no longer carried the Super Friends name. This series returned to a conventional lineup for the team, with a focus on teen members and Firestorm. Once again headquartered at the Hall of Justice in, the heroes battled such familiar foes as,, the and recurring villain. It also contained the only appearances by,, the and. The Super Powers Team: Galactic Guardians lasted one season before being canceled. The final new episode aired was 'The Death of Superman' on November 6, 1985. This third cancellation would be the final one, and Galactic Guardians marked the end of Hanna-Barbera's 13-year run of the series on September 30, 1986. Characters [ ]. Main article: On January 18 and 25, 1979, Hanna-Barbera ran two one-hour live-action specials under the umbrella title. The first special, subtitled 'The Challenge', was loosely based on the Super Friends and the 1960s Batman series (played for laughs, but this time, including a laugh track) and included several other DC characters who replaced Samurai, Black Vulcan, and Apache Chief:, the E-2 Helena Wayne (a new DC character, gathering her own following in All-Star and Adventure Comics JSA runs as a JSA member), and (who had previously had his own live action series through Filmation studios). The second special, entitled 'The Roast', featured as emcee of the roast, along the lines of specials. Due to Warner Bros.' Contracts on Wonder Woman (already being used in her own live action series; ) and Superman (in his own live-action theatrical movie at the time; ), they were unable to be featured on the specials. The Plastic Man Comedy Adventure Show [ ]. Main article: Plastic Man first appeared in the first season of Super Friends, in one episode. Later, released a series starring the character in his own solo adventures. Batman [ ] A Batman animated series was also considered in the mid-1980s, presumably with reprising his role as the voice of Batman. [ ] 'The Fear' was written as a pilot episode for the series, but it was instead adapted in to an episode of. The New Teen Titans [ ] In 1983, a cartoon based upon comics began development. It was created as a companion for the Super Friends, to be set in the same continuity. Robin was not going to be featured in the cartoon though, at least not as a regular, since in the Super Friends universe, he was a member of the Justice League. Like Super Friends, the show was to be developed by Hanna-Barbera for ABC, but since shows like (airing on ) were so popular at the time, this show was never picked up by the network. The show would have featured as the leader, along with,,, and. Although the show failed to get picked up, a television commercial with a theme did feature the Titans, as they would have appeared in the animated series, along with a new superhero named 'The Protector' who would have been the replacement character for Robin. A Teen Titans animated TV program was eventually, adding Robin and removing Wonder Girl, Kid Flash, and The Protector. DC Super Friends [ ]. Main article: developed a toy line named DC Super Friends featuring DC Comics characters as toys for young children. A comic book series and direct-to-video original animation called The Joker's Playhouse (2010) was developed to tie-in. The video features the World's Greatest Super Friends theme, allusions to the Legion of Doom, and the Super Friends and their Hall of Justice. To watch a full array of clips, visit. Comic books [ ] Super Friends [ ] The first use of the Super Friends name on a publication was in #C-41 (December 1975-January 1976) which reprinted stories from Justice League of America #36 and 61 and featured a new framing sequence by writer and artist. DC published a version of the Super Friends from November 1976 to August 1981. The comic book series was launched by E. Nelson Bridwell and artist. Zan and Jayna were given back stories and secret identities as a pair of blond-haired high school kids; they were more competent heroes than their cartoon counterparts. While the television cartoons were not part of the same fictional universe as the DC comic books, writer E. Nelson Bridwell made the comic book accord with the other DC titles via. An example of trying to fit Super Friends into the DC Universe: • Wendy, Marvin and Wonder Dog were the only ones active at the Hall of Justice, because the Justice League are in the 30th Century with the (as shown in #147–148). Robin was busy helping the Titans in #50-52. Bridwell also gave them last names and ties to the other characters' histories; Wendy Harris was the niece of detective Harvey Harris (who helped train ) and Marvin White was the son of Diana Prince (the woman who helped provide with a secret identity upon her arrival in America). While the show never explained the departure of Wendy, Marvin and Wonder Dog, the story was found in Super Friends #6–9. The argument for the comic being part of the Earth-One continuity also included the fact that certain elements of the series impacted other books in the DC line (such as TNT's appearance in Kandor in an issue of that references events exclusively from Super Friends, Sinestro's lack of a power ring in an issue of after the ring was destroyed in a Super Friends issue, and Superman already being familiar with Dr. Mist and the international heroes in after meeting them in Super Friends). Because the Super Friends stories were referenced in and the events in them remembered by the characters in the core DC superhero titles - for example, in Justice League of America no. 155 (June 1978) - they have to be considered part of the Pre-Crisis Earth 1 ensemble of stories. In 2008, DC began publishing a new comic book starring Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Flash () and Green Lantern (). Based on the eponymous toyline; it is aimed at children, with an art style reminiscent to that of Marvel's. Collected Editions • Super Friends: For Justice! (collects #1-7) • Super Friends: Calling All Super Friends (collects #8-14) • Super Friends: Head of the Class (collects #15-21) • Super Friends: Mystery In Space (collects #22-28) Extreme Justice [ ] In the comics, the Wonder Twins were members of the short-lived offshoot,. Young Justice [ ] was a comic series that followed the adventures of a group composed of the latest teen superheroes of the late 1990s and early 2000s, including,, and. Towards the end of the run, Young Justice was involved in a mission which required them to invade an island whose population was made up of super-villains. In order to conduct a successful attack, the core team assembled all the then-known teen heroes (including the ). As in Extreme Justice, neither spoke English and both seemed to enjoy eating CDs. Unlike their cartoon counterparts, the Wonder Twins were rude and sarcastic. Super Buddies [ ]. Main article: The lighthearted nature of the show was spoofed in the 2000s with two DC, Formerly Known as the Justice League and I Can't Believe It's Not the Justice League! (although these series were more direct take-offs on the 1980s /-era ). In these miniseries the group is known as the 'Super Buddies', and consists of a team of ex-Justice League members. A television advertisement for the team shows them posing in the postures of the original Super Friends title card. Teen Titans [ ] As of issue #34 (2006), Wendy and Marvin were part of the DC continuity. They are now (a nod to their Super Friends successors, the Wonder Twins), engineering geniuses (having graduated from the at age 16), and are employed at as maintenance crew and mechanical troubleshooters. They were responsible for restoring Titans member to full functionality after he sustained damage to his artificial body parts during the events of the mini-series. Wonder Dog was also introduced into the series, although (unlike the cartoon) he was not a lovable sidekick and pet, but a murderous, shape-shifting demon dog who was sent to Titans Tower to kill the team. Wonder Dog killed Marvin and attacked Wendy, leaving her crippled from the waist down. Wendy is a supporting character in the series, where she receives help accepting her disabilities from former Batgirl. Justice League of America [ ] During the events of the 2005 company-wide crossover the was destroyed by, leaving the JLA without a base of operations. To that end, the team established the Hall of Justice in Washington, D.C. To act as an embassy for the team and an emergency base of operations if needed. In the continuity of the comics, the Hall was designed by and Wonder Woman. In Justice League of America #46 (2010) made his first appearance in the, where he was shown as one of the heroes driven temporarily insane. Wizard magazine [ ] Issue #77 of magazine parodied the Super Friends; the JLA was sent through a dimensional rift and met some of the Super Friends. After used his Martian vision to melt the villain and his machine (much to Green Lantern's dismay: 'You have to trick him into leaving, or shutting off his machine, NOT direct physical violence!' ), the Super Friends decided to send the Justice Leaguers back to their own dimension. As a jest, the magazine also ran an promotion for a Wonder Twins special by painter. The book, entitled Wonder Twins: Form of Water, was to be one of Alex Ross' oversized books chronicling the Justice League. The plot would see Zan and Jayna using their powers to help the Earth's famine- and drought-stricken nations after their monkey, Gleek, contracted super-rabies from severe dehydration. Superman and Batman: World's Funnest [ ] In the, and Mr. Mxyzptlk travel to different worlds within the DC Universe. On one of them, they encounter the Super Friends. Bumpers [ ] produced some lampooning the Super Friends: • One dealt with the nature of the Legion of Doom and 's odd manner of dress ( Brainiac: 'Look, I just want some pants.a decent pair of pants!' : 'Solomon Grundy want pants, too!' • The second dealt with the ' uselessness in battle ( Zan: 'I could get beaten by a sponge! It doesn't even have to be an evil sponge!' ) • The third, co-starring, dealt with 's useless powers ( Aquaman: 'My ability to talk to fish is of no use to us,!' ) and the level of violence compared with recent cartoons. Wonder Woman and Aquaman look away while the Powerpuff Girls beat up the Legion of Doom, at one point setting the Scarecrow on fire. Notable was Bubbles' double-entendre reply to Wonder Woman's compliment on how they were developing as superheroes: 'One day we'll be as developed as you'. Lex Luthor (a villain with a salacious mind) began laughing; his underlings understood the joke and laughed as well. When a piece of the Hall of Doom's ceiling fell on Luthor's head, everyone laughed. When the Powerpuff Girls came crashing in, Luthor mispronounced their collective name as 'The POWDERpuff Girls', annoying the Powerpuff Girls and causing them to angrily correct him: 'It's POWERpuff!' • In the fourth, co-starring, Superman, Aquaman, Wonder Woman and Batman are drinking coffee and discussing about the 'new kid' Ben Tennyson. Wonder Woman tells Batman he is envious of Ben and she wonders 'Maybe because he has super powers?' Batman just torments her; however, Superman agrees with Wonder Woman's point, then explains that Aquaman can talk to fish and that he can fly; 'But you're just a loaded guy with a rubber mask, an expensive car and a funny belt.' Just then, Ben walks into the break room and gets his lunch. Batman greets him not quite friendly at first, however after Ben asks Batman for his autograph, Batman feels pleased. He then asked the other superheroes if they want half of his sandwich and Aquaman takes it. Ben then tells Superman that he has Superman pajamas, which makes his day. Ben then leaves the break room and all the heroes are happy to have seen Ben's nice side for them. Then Aquaman chimes in, saying it was cool that he gave him half of his tuna sandwich. Suddenly their mood turns very awkward. Has also produced bumpers parodying the Super Friends. The first was a clip from the episode 'The Time Trap', with edited in to give the appearance of profanity. They produced similar clips using other cartoons. In another bumper, they lampooned the manner in which the Super Friends described every action before completing it (e.g., 'I need to reach my utility belt so that I may free myself!' ) In this commercial, the heroes went to a movie and struggled to find money for. Several bumpers consist of little more than Aquaman walking into a realistic photograph and then proceeding to dance to some rump-shaking music. The Super Friends in other DC media [ ] Justice League [ ] At the end of 'Secret Origins,' the premiere three-episode arc of Justice League, Superman proposes the formation of a superhero coalition including himself, Batman, Wonder Woman, the Flash (Wally West), the Green Lantern (John Stewart), the Martian Manhunter, and Hawkgirl. In a direct reference (and perhaps a criticism of the somewhat silly name), the Flash jokingly asks if such a team would be called 'Super Friends'. Superman relabels the guild as the 'Justice League'. Justice League Unlimited [ ] In the animated series, Gorilla Grodd reforms his this time an even larger group of villains. While not called 'The Legion of Doom', their is a craft similar to the Hall of Doom, located in a swamp. Additionally, the Justice League's Metro Tower headquarters in Metropolis strongly resembled the Hall of Justice. The Ultimen, loosely based on characters created for the Super Friends, were briefly allies and later antagonists to the JLU. The Ultimen consisted of,,,. The group appeared in the episode 'Ultimatum', where it is revealed that they are clones created. The Batman [ ] The animated series featured a modified version of the which closely resembled the Hall of Justice. Batman: The Brave and the Bold [ ] The Hall of Justice appeared in the episode 'Sidekicks Assemble!' , with a pastiche of the music played when the Hall appeared in Super Friends. Smallville [ ] The Wonder Twins appeared in the episode 'Idol', with Zan played by and Jayna played. Gleek did not appear physically, but a cartoonish image of him was shown on each of the twins' cellphones. Young Justice [ ] The Hall of Justice was featured in as the Justice League's decoy base of operations. Additionally, Wendy and Marvin appear as classmates of and. The members of the operate out of a base resembling the Legion's Hall of Doom. In the second season, approximations of the minority members created for Super Friends (similar to the Ultimen example above) are introduced as teenagers given powers by the. The group consists of Tye Longshadow (Apache Chief), Asami 'Sam' Koizumi (Samurai), and Eduardo 'Ed' Dorado Jr. The exception is Black Vulcan, whose place is taken by hero (Black Lightning also appears in the series). DC Nation Shorts [ ] The title of the Super Best Friends Forever is a play on the title Super Friends. Additionally, Black Vulcan's costume can be seen in the background of the first short. The carries several homages to the Super Friends including its narrator, characters used, and graphics. Teen Titans Go! [ ] In the Two-Parter episode, the Titans go to the Hall of Justice to use the pool, as later, they become members of the Justice League to save the Justice League members from Darkseid, this sequence parodies the introduction of the super heroes as in the Super Friends series. Supergirl [ ] In the pilot episode of, Winn thought of calling the group with Kara 'The Super Friends'. The Flash [ ] In the Invasion cross-over event, across Supergirl,, and DC's, the secret STAR Labs base used by the heroes was based on the Hall of Justice. The Lego Batman Movie [ ] In, the cast of the Super Friends are seen celebrating an anniversary party in the Fortress of Solitude, which Batman wasn't invited to.
